My name is Dai.I do Fire dancing - and this is how it started
After the first 21 years of my life in Japan I felt an urge.
The urge to explore. Travel. Consume and experience foreign cultures. The only fire I felt then was my burning desire to interact culturally with the rest of world. 1999 arrived and saw me going to London.
Without English, without friends I spent a lot of time exploring the streets of London.
There I happened upon Fire Dancers, Jugglers and Performers. So I tried my hand at fire spinning. But strictly out of curiosity.
The cold winters of London drove me to travel to South Africa for the first time at the end of 1999.
It's Millennium time. Africa. What will Mother Africa have in stall for me? After one month my spirit became part of Africa. I knew I would always return again.
A remarkable thing happened when Africa saw me return for the 2001 Total Eclipse in Zambia. I was in Kenya, on the road from Nairobi to Mombasa.
There it was An ancient giant rooted in the bone-dry earth reaching out to the clear sky.
Baobab Everything changed.
Mother Africa provided the inspiration. By now my Fire Dancing had evolved from a casual interest to a burning passion. The symbol of the Baobab and the Eclipse lifted me from this earth and became the inspiration and focus for my Fire Performances
This is the name I chose. Now I use Fire Performance as a universal tool to express the infinite possibility inherent in Nature and each of us. My fire shows are truly unique.
I conceive, choreograph and perform original shows that touches audiences across cultural and language barriers everywhere I travel. To add to the uniqueness of my performances I spend a great deal of time to design and build my own original fire equipment, costumes and props.
